In an increasingly secular culture, we must be able to lead seekers to an authentic encounter with God, or they will look somewhere else. The old paradigm taught that if you have the right teaching, you will experience God. The new paradigm says that if you experience God, you will have the right teaching. This may be disturbing for many who assume that propositional truth must always precede and dictate religious experience. That mind-set is the product of systematic theology and has much to contribute. However, biblical theology looks to the Bible for a pattern of experience followed by proposition. The experience of the Exodus from Egypt preceded the recording of Exodus in the Bible. The experience of the crucifixion, the resurrection and Pentecost all predated the propositional declaration of those events in the New Testament. It is not so much that one is right and the other is wrong; it is more a matter of perspective one takes on God’s touch and God’s truth.

Deeper in Worship

February 12, 2007 by psrol

The depth of our worship for God requires two ingredients.  Firstly, right theology. This is simply knowing who God is, His character and dealing with us as revealed in His word. The fullness of God is revealed through His Son Jesus Christ.  Secondly, to go deep in worship we must yearn for life encounters with God. Theology in our heads enters our hearts through life encounters with God.   “Christianity is not a religion that sees human journeys primarily in terms of growth, but in terms of transformation at the very center of our being.” (Edmund Chan)

Every life encounter that leads to a surrender, a building of a personal altar before God, brings us deeper in our worship of the Lord.

“Take me deeper, deeper in love with you

Jesus hold me close to Your embrace

Take me deeper, deeper than I’ve been before

I just want to love You more and more

How I long to be deeper in love…”

Nothing Compares To You
by WhtDove
I’m sitting here filled with wonder
At the amazing things you do
How the waters stay in the oceans
And the vast beauty of the view

How the stars are hung in the sky
Within them is written your word
How we are the following sheep
And you are the only Shepherd

How the sky is painted with color
Bursts of orange in the sunset glow
How much knowledge it took to make
And how little us humans know

How intricately you planned it
There was nothing you left unthought
From the delicacy of a baby
To all the sins of ours you bought

There’s no other love that’s out there
As deep and as faithful and true
No other comfort to be found
Because nothing compares to you

Nothing compares to your miracles
Or the listening time you spend
How you always take good care of us
And our broken hearts that you mend

To us, our problems like mountains
To you, they’re no problem at all
You’re ever so watchful and there
To help catch us, when we do fall

I’m just sitting here filled with wonder
At the awesome things that you do
At being our Lord and Savior
Because nothing compares to You!
